Urogynecological physiotherapy – what the visit looks like?

urogynecological physiotherapy

Urogynecological physiotherapy is aimed at prevention, diagnosing and supporting the treatment of all pelvic diseases.

At Ach Studio Gdynia you deal with a certified urogynecological physiotherapist of the Polish Urogynecological Society.

The first visits are always associated with uncertainty about what to expect from them. We don't want to surprise you with anything, so I will show you what the first visit to a urogynecological physiotherapist looks like.

  • first, I conduct a thorough interview – it is essential, so as not to miss anything important in diagnosing your problem
  • then I go to the assessment of your attitude
  • then an examination and assessment of the external structure of the abdomen and pelvis will be carried out – we may ask you to perform certain movements to test your muscles, or checking the range of motion in the joints
  • only at the very end do we proceed to examining the internal structures of the pelvic floor.

Research opportunities:

The best option is to have a vaginal examination (a sheath;) – this test looks similar to a gynecological test, its purpose, however, is slightly different.

In the case of an examination by a physiotherapist, we evaluate: muscle tension, muscle strength and endurance. The ability to perform a proper contraction and the position of the pelvic organs are also important (bladder, uterus, rectum). It also differs in position, In the office, I perform the examination in the supine position with bent legs, be in a semi-standing position if necessary.

During the examination, we will ask you to perform pelvic floor activation, you will do the coughing and thrust test. Vaginal examination is of course your choice – it is by no means compulsory. However, I always encourage my patients to use this form, because it is the most precise and effective method of diagnosis and therapy selection.

The second option is to perform an indirect test – through leggings / underwear. We always use this form for pregnant women, because we do not perform a vaginal examination during this period.

It is also an alternative for ladies, who are not convinced, or want to get used to the subject of pelvic floor therapy. Keep in mind though, that this method will not guarantee a complete diagnosis.

If there is a need to refine the diagnosis of your problem, at your first visit, you may be asked to do a micturition diary. This is especially true for women, who have a problem with a bladder or urinary incontinence.

After the interview, examination and testing, I define the course of therapy how often we will see each other, if there is a need, I give home exercises.
